A visit to Edi's

We weren't going to let Easter come by and not do some travelling. With the US trip taking a fair dent out of our funds, it was decided a few weeks ago that we would look to do something low cost/low key.

With the return of Miffy from Australia, we couldn't turn down an invite to head to Llangollen in Wales to hang out with Miffy and her mum, Edi. Getting there was pretty easy - although not so straight forward when buying tickets (it was cheaper to buy all single tickets rather than a simple return ticket). A virgin train from London Euston to Birmingham, and then changing there to get us to Ruabon costing about £40/person for return tickets.

It was great to get some home cooked meals, with friday night being an awesome lamb roast (the lamb came straight from one of their friends farms), with saturday being a massive curry (I even got involved in the kitchen and made some roti).

Although a fairly quiet town, it was pumping with people during the easter break - in the short time we were there, we managed to check out:
a) an abandoned Monk's abbey
b) a scenic high point near Llangollen (the name escapes me right now)
c) Betsy-a-Coed - touristy town about 30 minutes drive from Llangollen
d) a whole heap of pubs, each with their own little quirks.

Of course, majority of the weekend was catching up with Miffy and her mum which was great to do, as I hadn't seen Edi (who is an great friend of my mum) in quite a few years.
